I once lost 60 pounds doing Kazaxe with Azuka Bom. My testimonial hung on the wall for over two years. I sometimes felt guilty when I saw it because I never told anyone I gained back 30 of those lost pounds. I felt it was better to leave it up as it may inspire someone else to focus on their physical health. But it was wrong, because the methods I used did not allow my body to substain the weight-loss.On June 28th, 2011, Fern Bom challenged me to a weight-loss competition (while we eating at a Korean BBQ). I quickly accepted. By morning I was rollerblading the three miles to workout at Kazaxe (This should explain the cuts and bruises on my face in the "before" photo). Kazaxe was my guaranteed method of losing weight. Quite simply: dance in a room full of women for an hour. For any single, heterosexual male with a hearbeat you don't really need any more motivation. I knew that as long as I kept it up for at least three times a week I would lose weight like I did in the past.
I caution anyone reading, however, that exercise is just a part of the weight-loss process. My diet and eating habits had to change. I consulted David Dang who gave me guidelines on the types of foods I should be eating. More importantly, he fit the plan according to my lifestyle: I don't cook. I eat out every day. Because of my job I'm on the road often and unable to "bring food to work." Oh yes, and I LOVE food!!
To build this type of commitment it takes TIME. I didn't share the same lifestyle as David did so I couldn't expect to receive the same results he acquired in 120 days. I continued to eat out but this time I was much more careful about the selection (hint: it involved a lot of double-meat Chipotle meals). Do you understand how difficult it is for an Asian man to hear he can't eat rice? Puh-leaase... There are just something that I am NOT willing to give up!
In addition to the meal plans, I integrated weight-lifting into my lifestyle. For the first time in my life I got a gym membership. January is the month with the highest amount of new members as people begin their New Year's resolution. It's a great goal, but you HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN. "A Goal Without a Plan is Just a WISH."
In order for this plan to work it MUST be a PART of your lifestyle; not an addition. Working, eating, showering, brushing your teeth, pooping and peeing. These are all things that we do every day (at least I hope it is). Exercise MUST be a part of that. You can't find yourself saying "oh, I don't have time to workout," or "I'm just too tired." That's the BEST reason to workout! Eliminate excuses and results will come.I'm happy with the results I have. I lost a total of 25 pounds since June 2011. Although it may not seem like a dramatic change like David's, I'm still happy. Happy because it shows you that normal people will get normal results - but results nonetheless. I'm normal; David is not. During this six months I fell into the trap of fast food and alcohol. I sometimes became lazy. We're all human. But I knew how important my goals were so I had to turn away from these traps.
If you really want it to work, reward yourself every now and then (on the weekends only). Don't give up. Have a plan. Stick to the plan. If you fall of the plan, fine. Wait it out for a couple days and get back on it.
Project DANGger is offically over. I met the goal I set by following the plan that was written. This does mean I will stop working out. Kazaxe and lifting have become a PART OF MY LIFE and I will not give it up - like rice.
